The lack of backstabs/parries for most powerful enemies is one reason why rogue/thief builds aren't terrible viable. you can't have your shield up if you intend to backstab. make sure to not have it raised. position yourself behind his legs (not his chest). I tend to find it easier to backstab if i approach from their right. n8RN.
